Jahan Zeb Chowdhury is an expert in climate finance, environmental strategy, and sustainable development, with over 15 years of international experience. As the Global Lead for Environment and Climate at IFAD, he plays a pivotal role in developing and implementing climate and biodiversity strategies aimed at enhancing resilience and sustainability in agriculture and rural communities. Jahan’s expertise has been instrumental in shaping global climate action through initiatives such as the NDC Partnership, which has been critical in securing finance for supporting the design and implementation of NDCs. He has led major initiatives, including the Rwanda Green Fund, contributing significantly to national climate resilience efforts.
A key strength of Jahan’s career is his ability to bridge climate and development finance, drawing on his extensive experience working with Ministries of Finance, particularly in Africa. For example, he has supported governments in designing climate-resilient agriculture investment strategies that align with national development goals. Jahan has also worked with Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) and the Green Climate Fund (GCF), where he played a crucial role in advancing green growth strategies and results-based frameworks, ensuring that climate finance is effectively channeled to vulnerable communities while promoting sustainable economic growth. Jahan holds an MPhil degree from University of Oxford.
