Francisco de la Torre Prados has served as the Mayor of Málaga since 2000, bringing a wealth of experience in regional development and public service. He holds a degree in Sociology, is a Specialist in Regional Development, and earned a Doctorate in Agricultural Engineering.
Throughout his distinguished career, Francisco has held several key leadership roles. He served as Vice-President of the Bureau of the Euro-Mediterranean Regional and Local Assembly (ARLEM), representing the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR), and as Vice-President of the Euro-Mediterranean Association of Local and Regional Authorities (COPPEM). Additionally, he has been a member of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe. His commitment to public service extends to the national level, where he has been both a Member of the Spanish Parliament (MP) and a Spanish Senator.
Francisco’s contributions have been recognized internationally. He has been awarded the Legion of Honour by the French Republic, the Distinction of the Minister of Foreign Affairs by Japan, and an Honorary Officer of the Order of the British Empire (Hon OBE) by the United Kingdom.
In addition to his public service, Francisco is actively involved in global initiatives. He is a member of the advisory board of UNITAR, the United Nations Institute for Training and Research, and contributes to the CIFAL–UNITAR Global Network.
